What type of flooring can be installed in a condominium?
If
you would like hardwood in your condominium then you will need to use a product called engineered flooring. This product can
be installed directly on concrete flooring but condominium regulations must be taken into account. For example, some
residences require that cork be installed under the engineered flooring. You must check with your management office to see
what rules are in place.
A less costly option is to install laminate flooring which is similar in appearance to
natural wood. Installation for laminate is as indicated above for engineered flooring.
Can I install hardwood in my basement?
You can install hardwood
in your basement but this requires a specific process which may be costly. For example, all basements have concrete floors
on which hardwood flooring cannot be installed directly. This means that a subfloor must be installed to protect the hardwood
that will go on top of it. The specific subfloor that is used maintains air circulation between the concrete and the hardwood
flooring.
A less expensive alternative for basements is engineered or laminate flooring.
Can I put hardwood in my kitchen or powder room?
Hardwood
flooring can be installed in kitchens and powder rooms, however, we do not recommend this option because it is not ideal for
high-traffic areas. More durable options such as ceramic, porcelain tiles or natural stone would be a much better choice.
Furthermore, Belz Hardwood Floors & Stairs Inc. will gladly install tiles in small areas while working in your home.
Can I install hardwood flooring in my foyer?
We do not recommend hardwood flooring in the foyer because this area is exposed to a lot of water (due to rain, show, etc).
As a result, hardwood installed in this area will become damaged quite quickly. Ceramic and porcelain tiles, as well as natural
stone tend to be a better option for entryways.
What can I do if
I have an oak staircase but would like to install a different kind of hardwood? Do I need to replace my staircase to
make it match?
You do not need to replace your entire staircase, particularly if
it is in good condition. Instead, your staircase can be refinished to match your new flooring, or your hardwood can
be stained to match your existing staircase. It is important to remember that this alternative will only result in a close
match in colour, while the grain of the woods will still differ.
What
is the difference between unfinished and pre-finished flooring?
Pre-finished
hardwood comes pre-stained and finished from the manufacturer. This flooring comes ready to install, which means that no extra
work needs to be done. Unfinished hardwood floors required sanding, staining and finishing after installation is complete.
